The importance of the eyes in portrait photography is self–evident. In portrait photography, if you want to make the eyes of the characters have charm and charm, you must rely on the eye light, which is the image of the lighting source reflected by the eyes of the person being photographed. There are many ways to shape eye light, among which there are three main methods that are more commonly used: the point light source modeling method. Softbox modeling and reflector modeling.
The point light source modeling method
is to use point light sources such as tungsten filament lamps to create one or more catchlights, which are shaped as bright points. When the eye light of the character is only a little bit, try to point it slightly above the black eye. If the point is too far or too low, the character’s eyes will appear loose, and the eyes of the point light source will make the eyes look sharp and sharp. Good for the expression of majestic eyes, self–confidence, and a sense of power.
The softbox modeling method
uses a softbox to create bright spots with clear shapes such as rectangles in the eyes of the characters, so that the eyes of the characters have a better three–dimensional sense, and the eyes are more hazy and full of charm. This modeling method is used in commercial portraits. Applications are extremely common.
Reflector modeling method
In outdoor sunny conditions, when shooting backlit or backlit portraits, and when shooting portraits with scattered light in gloomy weather, we can use reflectors to shape the eye lightly, making the original dull picture more lively. Of course, the amount of eye light is also easy to be too much, the brightness should be appropriate, not too bright, otherwise, the charm that the eyes should have will be lost. In many photos, the eyes of the characters have become two crystal clear glass balls. This kind of lighting method of eyes can easily give people the impression of being absent–minded and tacky, and it is impossible to talk about the inner emotions and personality characteristics of the characters.
In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the same number of eye light points in both eyes, otherwise, it will easily give people the impression that the subject’s eyes are defective and destroy the image of the character. At the same time, during the shooting, you should try your best to mobilize the eyeballs of the photographed person. There must be a certain amount of rotation. Don’t blindly stay in the center and look at the camera sluggishly. Make people feel that the person you are shooting is also watching, and the eyes are alive. Bring out the life force of the people in the photo.
